2° IOCSC-Italian Open Chess Software Cup

I would like to inform everybody about the second IOCSC, Italian Open Chess Software Cup. This tourney will be held in Italy and it's open to any original chess software. No hardware or operators are provided but you can find more details in this file:

It contains the rules, depliants, travel and hotels information and the contact of the organization.

I hope to see you in Carugate (Milan - Italy) this november 11-12-13.

After the 5th and last round, Equinox and Chiron have both 3.5 points.

Congratulation to winners, i means both Equinox (Giancarlo Delli Colli) and Chiron (Ubaldo Andrea Farina). They are very strong programs and the match has been decided only at tie-break. I've seen the last game and until near the end the software were in balanced position. I think that opening the queen side rook columns by the white has been the final error... but, while i was seeing the games, it seemed to me that strategy could be good, for white. Maybe the strategy was good but it has not been played with enough precision by Chiron.

The tourney itself was very funny for me. The night before the tourney i've realized that i could not play with the new software (developed in C++) so i've decide to "resuscitate" the old Freccia Windows version in assembly. That version have a bug that i couldn't correct since 2009 and it was not clear to me what was wrong. Because i haven't another program to play with, i've played with the bugged Freccia. The first game Freccia started with this amusement moves: a4...a5...a6 . During the 3th game i've debugged Freccia and finally found the bug... in the time between two Freccia's moves . The bug was very funny: when the time of a move expired, the search in iterative deepening ends but the program doesn't take the better move but the first one!!! Corrected this bug, the last 2 games was almost normal, without any strangeness. Still there are another interesting bug. Do to the various changes done "at the fly" in the 2010 tourney, there an error in comparison of signed/unsigend values, so Freccia when find that it loose something.... choose to loose the bigger piece!!! Lets say: Freccia find that it can surely loose a pawn and a queen? It choose to loose the queen!!! Luckly in the last game this bug has not appeared, so Freccia has won one game and that's all a folks.



PS: you should come in Italy the next year, you can play funny tournaments, in beauty full places with very good cooking (and the sponsor pay for all of that!!!)
