Here we have the results I promised earlier today in the match between RobboLito 0.09 and Critter 1.2 I have to admit I thought Critter had enough in him to make this match a war. Well............................
1CPU/32bit
128MB hash
No bases
Ponder_Learning=OFF
Perfect 12.32 book w/12move limit
40/3 Repeating
Match=40 games
Critter 1.2.....................+15/-4/=21
RobboLito 0.09...............+4/-15/=21
Do not underestimate the significance of this victory. Tho I admit all the results I have seen from other tests involving RobboLito were 64bit, let us remember Critter can also play 64bit. And this is the latest RobboLito version, and I have found no arguments saying there is a stronger version. So rightly or wrongly- if it isn't the strongest- it's on a damn short list.
For me- this is no small victory. I know exactly where Critter is on CCRL's 32bit rating list. But that's not the same as watching it play. "It's too few games to reach any conclusions" will be an observation by some. I just don't have the time right now to let them play half a million games.
Whatever it was- it was a hatchet job. Richard is supposed to be right there knocking on the door. Or has he already busted thru it? Hmm.
This throws a monkey wrench in my previous plans. I may have other plans for Critter tomorrow.
Stay tuned. It will be good.

Thanks George. Looks like Critter has moved up a bit. To few games but interesting. Any engine coming that close to Houdini will be tested.geots wrote:Here we have the results I promised earlier today in the match between RobboLito 0.09 and Critter 1.2 I have to admit I thought Critter had enough in him to make this match a war. Thank you Gerold for your comments and interest. But keep in mind there is a variable here that is just as important as the number of games.
I have not discussed this with Richard, but it has been discussed at length with me by another top programmer in the top 10 who is heading to the top. And I cannot mention our conversation or his name w/o his approval. But to make a long story short- he is investing, if not all of his time, enough to make anything else an after thought- in 64 bit. He feels, and I think rightly so, that he should always provide a 32bit version because of the enormous number of people who still rely on it. But most of his attention is toward the future- and the future is 64bit. Therefore right now his 64bit version is doing much better ag. the top 20 64bit versions than his 32bit version is doing ag. the top 20 32bit versions.
And I am quite sure he is not the only top programmer who sees the future. So keep that info in mind when you are looking at the top 10 or top 20 engines- exactly how much of their effort has been put into > the strength of their 32bit version.
As for RobboLito 32bit or 64bit- that is a non-issue. I spoke to the author, and as it stands right now- Robbo is no longer in development under the name RobboLito. It has- all of it- been merged with IvanHoe. Instead of something like "RobboHoe" or "IvanLito"- they are sticking with the name IvanHoe as is.
For anyone who wants to stop living in the past and accept these engines as legit, there are some interesting and fun times ahead. And when you also take into consideration some major surprises Vas has in store- this will be a tester's paradise.
Best,
george
