DeepSaros Runs Into A Monster!

Post by geots »

Critter 1.4 vs. DeepSaros ver.2.3j

I told Dr. Deeb last night that after DeepSaros had gone thru the 2 latest Stockfish versions, Rybka 4.1, Fritz 13 and Komodo 4, there was really nothing left. What was the choice- waste cpu time watching it destroy Hiarcs, Shredder and Junior? For what purpose?

I said that it had done all it could, because Critter 1.4 and Houdini 2.0c were on another planet from any of these engines. But stubborn me went ahead and pitted it in a match against Critter 1.4- any DeepSaros fans might want to leave the room now.

Dr., Critter and Houdini are just on another planet right now. In same match conditions a week or so ago, not counting the draws, Houdini 2.0c had to win games 49 and 50 to scrape by this new Critter version 14 - 13. In 32-bit, Critter has shortened the distance to where there is little, if any.

Hey George!

Thanks for running these matches.

Just a question? Isn't Komodo 4 in the same realm as Houdini and Critter?

It seems (at least to other lists) that Komodo 4 holds it own against those two engines.

Thanks!

As far as I can tell Komodo 4 is not close to Critter in 32bit. But Don told me the 64bit exe is where it does its best. Most would say I have not run enough games to reach a valid conclusion, and I think now I will run Critter 1.4 against Komodo 4 and have the results for you tonight at around 11:00 PM central USA time

I may be wrong, but I will state again that I think at 32bit, Critter and Houdini are in a world alone. I was shocked when I ran Critter 1.4 ag. Houdini 2.0c and not counting draws, Houdini had to win games 49 and 50 to scrape by with a 14 - 13 win. Richard seems to be amazing.

But watch in 12 or 13 hours, I will have a Komodo-Critter result for you. Nothing written in stone, but at least you can get an idea. And who knows- strange things can happen.

Indeed, I believe this to be true. Komodo 4 64bit SSE is a monster on my system and it clearly very close to Houdini 1.5. But when I tried the 32 bit version it got slaughtered!

I am waiting on a new dual core 64 bit box to arrive, so I do not have access to 64 bit right now. But soon I will. At any rate, I do not have to go out on a limb to say that you are "dead-on" 100% right.
