The on-line engine blitz tourney for May will take place:
Saturday May 19, 3pm EST (21:00 CET)
To connect, use the command
winboard -zp -ics -icshost 80.100.28.169 -icshelper timeseal -fcp ENGINE.exe -fd ENGINEFOLDER -autoKibitz
with an extra -fUCI when your engine is UCI. Please log on in time, preferably ~15 min in advance.

This announcement also offers the opportunity for an inquiry:
Some people have expressed interest in also doing a Chess960 on-line tourney. Now I don't have any Chess960 engines myself, so this idea would only be viable if there is enough interest amongst authors of Chess960 engines. So if you have a Chess960 engine that you would be interested to play in an on-line event, please raise your voice here!

What is the process for a spectator, using Winboard, to watch the tournament. I have never tried before.

Ah, for spectators the command can be much simpler:
winboard -ics -icshost 80.100.28.169 -autoKibitz
No reason not to bring an engine, though!

Thanks, H.G.
As far as bringing an engine, I might do that soon.

Richard Pijl e-mailed me to express interest too. But 3 is not yet enough to have a tourney, so I hope there will still be more.

Re: On-line blitz tourney May (and Chess960 interest poll)
That's OK, next Saturday we will do normal Chess in any case. The Chess 960 poll is just for figuring out if it is possible to organize something in addition to the normal blitz tourney, besides that.
That doesn't necessarily have to be blitz either. For normal Chess there are already CCT, WCRCC and ACCA/PanEuropean on-line events, but for Chess960 I don't think there is that much. Of course at longer TC it would take more than just an evening, and we would not want to do that every month, but once or twice a year a full day or weekend should be doable.

Why not 10x10 international checkers as well?hgm wrote:That's OK, next Saturday we will do normal Chess in any case. The Chess 960 poll is just for figuring out if it is possible to organize something in addition to the normal blitz tourney, besides that.

Re: On-line blitz tourney May (and Chess960 interest poll)
1) The ICS does not support it, as it is not a Chess-like game
2) Are you sure there aren't such on-line events already?
The 'damexchange' protocol allows peer-to-peer playing over a network, so I guess people could easily organize such events even without a server.
