I'm playing and testing a couple engines, and then I came across some odd moves.
The engine would see mate in one, but wouldn't play it. If the opponent's move doesn't prevent mate, it plays another random move. The cycle repeats and repeats.
I did a couple tests against those engines (Sloppy, Slow Chess Blitz, MicroMax) and they all seem to display that behavior.
Is this a bug or a variant of chess I'm not aware of?

Well, it seems you have a GUI problem. Micro-Max 4.8m certainly does not play any of the moves shown here. Best look at the log of the engin<->GUI communication to see what the GUI is doing wrong.

Re: Mate bug?
It seems to work fine in Arena. Could it be the Wb2Uci settings I'm messing up with? I'm not using any of the extra parameters for Wb2Uci.eng.

Re: Mate bug?
I know nothing about wb2uci other than that it exists. Micro-Max is a very basic WB v1 engine, though. I cannot imagine it would require any special settings to run it.

Ah, I didn't have the newer (beta) version of Wb2Uci. They work fine now!
