In fact it seems very awkward period!
This is the first time i have had my own computer to download it on to, and i thought AT LAST! I can have the time of my life, everything i wanted to do for years.
And in fact, at first, it looked quite impressive, with a few free engines including Rybka 2.2, etc.
But when i wanted to force moves until a position i wanted to see it analyse, i just could not find the way to do it.
In the end, i found how to set up a position, but i don't know how to move around the pieces whilst seeing analysis, or how to see clearly the first few favorite lines of play.
I now have Arena, but seems very awkward for analysing.

Well, I don't know Arena. In WinBoard you would simply select Mode->Analysis from the menu, after starting with an engine, and you could enter moves by dragging the pieces over the board, or paste a FEN to setup a position, etc. The Engine-Output window would open automatically, and you could position and size it anywhere/anyway you want.

Re: I now have Arena, but seems very awkward for analysing.
- Set up a position.
- Click on the analyze button.
- Click on the edit button near the analyze button.
- One of the squares will have a purple box drawn around it along the edges of the square. Click on this square to eliminate this purple box highlighted square.
BTW, if later, if you inadvertently click on a square so that it becomes highlighted, you will be blocked from being able to make moves again. Click on the square a 2nd time to fix.

Thanks!rjgibert wrote:After you do these 3 things, you will be able to make moves that arena will automatically analyze as well. It's an annoying procedure, but that's the way it is.
