The Smartest Person Here- Please Step Up!

Post by geots »

For the purposes of Group 1 RR- it makes little or no difference. However, I have been told that in Arena- you can shut off BlackMamba's access to gaviota TBs. However, I am running BlackMamba in Fritz 11 and Fritz 13. In the guis, under "Options- Tablebases" I have removed any TB paths. And to be doubly sure- I removed the Nalimov TB folder and my egbb folder, and moved them to an external hard drive. I don't have, and have never had- even 1 gaviota TB file in my system. On top of that- in the Fritz guis, in the parameters for BlackMamba- there is NO gaviota path anyway- in fact no TB path at all.

So- even with all the above- BlackMamba is showing endgame TB hits in its thinking lines and it records the hits in the PGNs as well. However, the amount seems to be a lot smaller than it would be if it had access to all 3,4 and 5 man of gaviota or Nalimov.

And since the engine folder contains an exe and matching logo- and that is all- I contend it doesn't take Einstein to figure where BlackMamba is getting the TB files from. And the low hit number says there are only a small number of files stored- probably just for the most seen endgame situations.

But why in Arena TB hits can be completely stopped- and they evidently cannot be in Fritz guis- since I have never seen the inside of Arena I would have no clue.

Sort of like he is smoking a cigar behind door 1, 2 or 3. Open doors 1 and 2 and no one there- then you see smoke coming from under door 3. Do you really need to open it to be sure.

Capital punishment would be more effective as a preventive measure if it were administered prior to the crime.

I have noticed that some engines come with a kpk endgame database, and they will use that no matter what. Some will even crash or refuse to run if it is not present, for reasons I don't understand. But that might be what is happening.

Thanks Dr.- I think you are right, because whatever files he is using don't take up much space, as is evident from the exe size and the small hits. And you are right- futile to try and stop it!

Thanks and Merry Christmas-

George, the blackmamba 1.0 comes with KPK endgame "embedded" inside the exe. But there was a bug that increase the tbhits in wrong way. It should be fixed with the latest available version.
