Gupta - a new Winboard chess engine !

Post by Sylwy »

Hey men,

a lot of distraction tonight ! :lol:

Gupta is a new WB engine of Mr. Jelle Geerts - The Netherlands. Works well in many GUIs. Has also its own GUI ( named Gambit r.767) !

http://sourceforge.net/projects/gambitc ... urce=files

Have a superb night !

_No one can hit as hard as life.But it ain’t about how hard you can hit.It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.How much you can take and keep moving forward….

I have no idea why the author the WB-application is called "gupta" - maybe with the meaning "mystery / secret" from Sanskrit, an Old Indian language.

But an external interface is not necessary - Gambit has its own GUI, too.

Gambit was called a further MAC OS X interface with Crafty Chess Engine which is now no longer available

Best wishes,
Norbert

Hi Norbert !

Its own GUI hasn't much features. Just now Gupta (the name Gupta is derived from Sanskrit goptri, meaning 'protector' or 'governor') plays in a tournament under Arena 3.0 GUI.

Best to you !

Hello !

You can obtain instantly only GUPTA chess engine using InnoExtractor (for example the portable version - a powerful tool).
The manual is below :lol:

Hmmm... I downloaded it today and also extracted the engine alone with another tool.
BTW sourceforge itself claims a possible malware warning - probably someone reported a false positive there.

I noticed that size and date meanwhile is very different, (115Kb 2014/11) but more important,
it just sequentially plays the pawns from h to a as long as available.

In the GUI it plays 'normal' chess. I could not figure out if it relies on other files.
Did you add any commandline parameters? (The GUI has 1-5 strength settings)
If not, please send me your version from 2013 from this thread.

Here a game from ACCC with the same behaviour!

Code: Select all

[Event "ACCC_2015_League Promtion 5th_Cycle 3"]

1. Nf3 {-0.07/7 7} h5 2. Nc3 {+0.09/7 7} h4 3. d4 {+0.71/7 7} h3 4. gxh3
{+0.66/7 7} Rxh3 5. Bxh3 {+5.74/7 7} g5 6. Bxg5 {+7.28/6 7} f5 7. Bxf5
{+9.21/6 7} e5 8. Bg6# 1-0
Today I fiddled again with it and with the help of Inbetween I could get
a different behaviour by adding a search depth parameter to it, by abusing an obsolete and ignored command.
I only tried 'sd 6' and 'sd 7' so far. The later one still worked for 40/360s.
(strangely adding the same commandline in the WB.ini did not work!)

Still the results are much lower than 1600-1700...

Code: Select all

[InBetween]
Debug := 3
Log := Gupta_103.log
CommandLine := Gupta103.exe

[Client2Server]
; Set transalation of commands from the client here
; format word := translation
easy := sd 7

Note for future researchers (and myself for not having to check this again and again):

I changed the version indication for Gupta in the XB/UCI chronology to date-month.
The version number up to 1.04 only refer to the GUI called GambitChess.

The engine itself is unchanged since 2014-09 (code checked) and neither had nor will display any version.
