Stockfish 050314_4x - H4 (ct=0)4x - LTC match

Inspired by the Riddick match I played a 50 games match between latest Stockfish 050314 against H4 (ct=0) under CCRL 40/40 TC conditions
After 50 games: 37 draws (74%) SF won 7 and H4 6 games

In comparison with earlier blitz matches with TC 3m2s, same openings set, against previous versions of Stockfish, Houdini 4 did quite better at this longer time control.

To Mark Young I would like to say: play a LTC match SFdev - Houdini 4 (ct=0)
I found out it is indeed much stronger than default Houdini 4 against Stockfish (and Komodo) at these longer time controls

I found out it is indeed much stronger than default Houdini 4 against Stockfish (and Komodo) at these longer time controls

I don't understand your testing methodology Bram, are we to be Houdini devotees only as testers. And set Houdini 4 up in a way that always favors Houdini 4 in the rating list. And not do the same for Houdini 4's opposition engines.

Are we to set contempt = 0 when if seems to favor Houdini 4, and then set Houdini 4 to contempt = 1 when Houdini is not playing Stockfish and Komodo, because Houdini 4 can gain more rating points against weaker engines with contempt set to 1.

Why this bias to Houdini 4 only, and not to the other engines to help them out. By findings settings that help them against Houdini 4.

Why do Houdini devotees always insist in this way of testing.

If CT=0 is best, then RH needs to make that the default setting.

I know of settings that also help SF, but in my ratings test I use default.

I don't understand your testing methodology Bram, are we to be Houdini devotees only as testers. And set Houdini 4 up in a way that always favors Houdini 4 in the rating list. And not do the same for Houdini 4's opposition engines.

Are we to set contempt = 0 when if seems to favor Houdini 4, and then set Houdini 4 to contempt = 1 when Houdini is not playing Stockfish and Komodo, because Houdini 4 can gain more rating points against weaker engines with contempt set to 1.

Why this bias to Houdini 4 only, and not to the other engines to help them out. By findings settings that help them against Houdini 4.

If CT=0 is best, then RH needs to make that the default setting.

I know of settings that also help SF, but in my ratings test I use default.

Just like Tom Casanovas I also prefers SF matches against the strongest possible opponents
Besides that the chess quality of the games than played will be highest
Of course feel free what and how to test, but there is no need in prooving SF is stronger than Houdini 4, because in matches that point already has been reached since SF DD came out.

Yes overall I think CT=1 is stronger. When I run ratings test, I test against many programs.

I have posted test on this forum many times, because people claim CT=0 is best. Or some same if you would only test with CT=0 it would beat this program.

What I won't do as a tester is tune H4 or any program for every engine that program plays when I run my ratings test.

The only thing I generally change is threads, and something the programmer says I need to tune for my CPU.

CT=1 is default for H4 because RH deems it the strongest overall setting for his program. And my non rated matched seem to confirm this opinion. I have not found CT=0 to be a magic bullet for Houdini, as what it gives Houdini in one area, it takes away in the other areas.
