SCCT Rating List - Gull 3 x64 6c

Post by Sedat Canbaz »

Hello there,

Here are SCCT's first results played by Gull 3 x64 6c!

It is too early to announce, but I hardly doubt the new Gull 3 version will be ranked at Top 3 Places in SCCT!

Let's see after 1000 games what will be the standings...

Note also that I have seen two games forfeits on time by Gull 3 x64 6c (the previous Gull 2.8b version seems to be more stable)

But anyway, I am quite happy that we have Gull, free and plus much stronger than many commercial engines!

Hi Sedat,

You might need to re- run the test. All people around the world proved around 40! elo which is quite significant even in a small test sample and your result seemed a joke or extremely unexpected outcome.
Cheers,

Hello Nay Lin Tun,

Thanks for your interest...

I have tested Gull 3 under SCCT conditions...really not sure why we see different results, that means SCCT is different than all ))

To be honest,
In the Gull3's folder is included only Gull3x64.exe (17.04.2014 334 KB (342.016 bytes))
I mean, I deleted the rest files, maybe is needed Gull.cpp ?!
Plus, I am using different openings than all (Perfect 2014t book is private)
Maybe Gull 3 does not perform at full strenght under Fritz 12 GUI and this issue can be another reason...

And for right now I don't see any reason to repeat the Gull 3 test...
Till the date, where I will be sure that there is really something wrong in my test conditions!

Best,
Sedat

One thing more,
Not all around world proved 40 Elo ! :)

And where did you see that Gull 3 is 40 Elo stronger than Gull 2.8b ?

Plus exception SCCT, there is also another rating lists, (for example the Gull 3 test by Marijan) are confirming that Gull 3 has an unstable performance!

Marijan's rating list:

Code: Select all

Program Elo + - Games Score Av.Op. Draws

Stockfish140418RDMFx64 : 3187 15 14 749 55.9 % 3145 65.7 %
Houdini4Prox64 : 3159 9 9 3390 55.6 % 3119 44.6 %
Houdini4ProC0x64 : 3147 9 9 2402 50.2 % 3145 59.0 %
Houdini3x64 : 3123 9 9 3202 53.4 % 3099 45.3 %
KomodoTCECrx64 : 3094 10 10 2207 43.9 % 3136 49.8 %
Gull3x64 : 3077 16 16 962 52.6 % 3059 47.8 %

The Gull.cpp file contains the default parameters for the engine, but this would be a question that you'd be best asking Vadim about, through the OpenChess forum.

Cheers,
Graham.

Hello Graham,

I don't think so...because in XP compatible builds's folder there is no any Gull.cpp

But of course to be 100% sure, I think to ask Vadim

Hello again Graham,

I have just got an email by Vadim and here is his replay:

There could be two reasons for bad Gull SCCT performance
-bad luck
-some SMP implementation flaw in Gull 3
I think the first is more likely.

So Gull.cpp is not the reason (as I expected) :)

I think that it's the source code of the chess engine, right :!: :?:
