FCP: Stockfish 6 BMI2 x64 will be start in 15 hours ...

Hi there,

puh, that was a lot of work. Means to added all the engine updates from January and February in my FCP Rating List.

Now Stockfish can rund vs. the strongest participants after my own rules. I am not longer a Stockfish fan, because I am thinking more and more that such "open source" Projects aren't good.

1. If a lot of programmers added knowledge in such an open-source project other programmers will get each time the comment ... this is code based of Stockfish. For that reason much others hold own sources secret and this is good and right. Different of the Stockfish developers appointed to a king with chess knowledge comes from so many others programmers in the past.

2. If I follow the dev. ideas I can see most of the times ... that new ideas try out by random in self play. What have this to do with hard chess programming? Playing with settings, not more not less. Sure, that good programming ideas are try out too.

3. Self-Service-Outlet for cloners.
We forced to clone engines and more and more of such clones are available.

Of course a very strong good point:
A lot of people can try out own ideas, can improved the SF code. A work by a bigger team will give us each time good results. This is absolutely clear. The organisation is perfect, nice to follow for all of us.

Each good project forced weaknesses, I know that from Arena development. We should try to see that without to jubilate only. The bad points from open-sources are good known, not with chess software only.

Often I am thinking that "Open-Soruce" programmers are to much involved and see all with rose-colored-glasses.

Nice to hear that you finally test SF 6
Your three opinions stated to me look very not from this world and illogical

1) Most programmers are not at all ashamed to tell that they are looking in to the Stockfis code back and forth, so why would YOU or we bother that they sometimes get comments about picking ideas of Stockfish ???l

2) Your idea of chessengine development is old fashioned and romantic, these are modern times

3) why bother about Stockfish clones, the main project is what it is all about

Hi Bram,

sure, maybe you have right. I am more from the older fraction ...

In the past I am laughed about different old style opinions my parents had. I am in Young years more the revolutionary. Today I think I should search the almshouse as to test chess engines.

Never I say that my own opinion must be right to different topics I like to discuss. In case of Stockfish my opinion is more two-part. Can be easy see in the interview I made with the Stockfish team.

The style of Stockfish I like and I am sure that the programmers do a good work.

But have a look in the past ...
Different TOP programmers have bigger Problems with it to give the Information ... my engine based on ... good examples are Rybka and Houdini. And that is in my opinion a big Problem today. A programmer which used a strong sources for own ideas will ever get problems if to strong sources are free available.

Interview: Comments by Stockfish team ... all good ideas in chess programming are good known. I don't believe thats a good ideas good known sources to added in a open source engine because the ideas Comes by lot of people and not from the team the open sources created.

...

Not important ...
Now is Stockfish time ...
I will start the round-robin in the next two hours.

Best
