Grand Prix
It’s planned to hold a series of 8 CWT (one per month, all with same conditions) and award Grand Prix prizes for the best players. The four best results (=scores) counting for the GP.
Prizes depend on how many entries and on the sum of private donations.
(If you like to donate, please give a note, whether you like your user name to be published or not. Usually we will publish, but sometimes users prefer to stand behind.)
After the first 3 tours I will report how much money came in and which prizes are guaranteed for the Grand Prix.
Planned tour dates:
(Friday til Sunday)
CWT 2: June 5th - June 7th
CWT 3: July 3rd - July 5th
CWT 4: August 7th – August 9th
CWT 5: September 4th – September 6th
CWT 6: October 2nd – October 4th
CWT 7: November 6th – November 8th
CWT 8: December 4th - December 6th
Tour times (“schedule”) for the 1st CWT are set as a compromise between different time zones, but changes might apply according to future poll results
Pairings will be announced 5 minutes before round start, so everybody will know which colour and whom to play. It's time enough for last preparations.
Special playing rules apply for Tie-break:
One important novelty is (only for tie-break!) to value stalemating opponent higher than a normal draw and getting stalemated lower than a normal draw.
This rule recommends to players checking positions and strategies carefully, whether you could or should play for a stalemate (to getting best of your game, either if you have an advantage, but cannot win but stalemate your opponent, or if your position is worse and a normal draw would be better than getting stalemated).
For analysis or for engine stand-alone it might also be recommended to use an engine with a modified value for stalemate.
For background information on the stalemate topic look up, for example:

Methods of tie-break applying for single tours and also for Grand Prix:
1.a) Bonus point 0,2 for stalemating opponent
b) Bonus point 0,1 for having more black than white games
c) Minus point –0,2 for being stalemated
2. Number of wins
3. Number of wins with Black
4. Buchholz score (does not apply for final Grand Prix score)
5. Sonneborn Berger score (does not apply for final Grand Prix score),
6. 2 tie-break engine games 15m + 3s (using centaur mode optionally)
(instead: 4 games 15 + 3 for final Grand Prix tie-break)
7. 1 Sudden death game: White 5m/1s vs Black 3m/1s
(the player with the higher
rating has the first choice of White or Black)
Tournament Rules according to
InfinityChess Tournament Rules of 2014
(May be slightly revised and updated before 1st tour or later.)
