1. Create folder on your desktop.
2. Download Arena, and Stockfish for Windows.
3. Extract all to the folder you created on your desktop.
4. Open Arena from the .exe application of the files extracted in that folder.
5. Select Engines tab in Arena, then install new engine.
6. You know where your engine is... You want Stockfish - select it.
7. Once added you can play against it by loading engine under the same 'engines' tab in Arena, or select another engine (which might come with Arena).
8. Enjoy!

Actually, for windows users - c'mon, we know you all want to hate windows - it might be more logical to keep engines in a specific folder. That way, they can be accessed by other chess-related software the user may decide to install afterwards.
Then all a user have to do is point to an engines folder and guis can find them, you would have a common folder for TB's and other bases etc. Just a thought. Besides I hate stuff on the desktop. I really do not want to be looking at folders etc. I admit that your mileage may vary.

You may build your native compile which is hopefully faster.
