Is Komodo 9.0 file portable?

Post by TShackel »

Hi,

I saved my Komodo 9.0 to a flash drive, reinstalled windows 8.1, then reinstalled komodo 9.0 in the chessbase gui. I remembered that Houdini 4.0 was "not" portable, ie it gets a lot weaker unless you download it fresh on that computer from the houdini website. So do you have to download Komodo 9.0 fresh on the computer you wish to use it on? Or if I copy/paste from flash drive to my computer, will it work at full strength?

Thanks for anyone who can help me.

Sincerely,

Tim.

It's portable. One of the great pluses of Komodo, in my opinion, is its portability. I hate the Houdini protection scheme.

Yes, Tim, it is completely portable (unfortunately), without any loss in strength.
Unfortunately, because every Tom, Dick and Harry is using it without any problems whatsoever, whether they paid for it or NOT !

Actually, this is only part true.

It is portable if you're using the version obtained from Komodochess.com

It is not portable if you're using the version in the Chessbase / Fritz GUI package.

I have not seen a copy protection yet that has not been broken. It's just a fact of life. Famous last words, "This boat is unsinkable", ' This place is burgular-proof", "this system is hack-proof" I had put the LastPass on chrome as an extension but never liked so I removed it a while back and then I am reading on http://www.arstechnica.com some days back that they got hacked and people's security is compromised. Yeah, LastPass will be the last pass with anyone who tries to install it again. That's the death knell for that venture.

Remember this scholar: http://www.wired.com/2010/05/lifelock-identity-theft/ He got his azz chewed up viciously.

I am just going off a little. It's therapeutic for me. I agree with you that without copy pro it will have "better circulation" among non paying customers.

I always thought this was funny Dilbert shtick. I sent this to Bob many years ago.

Thanks everyone for your answers. So the consensus is that if you buy it from komodochess.com, then it is portable withhout any loss in strength. I appreciate your answers. Mark also answered me in private message.

Lifelock was always a crock. To quote Forest Gump, "stupid is as stupid does." Publicizing your SS number is definitely stupid...

As far as copy protection goes, I have broken way more than my fair share of such. Not to make illicit copies or to use software I didn't pay for, rather to make the software usable as I need / want to use it. My macbook, for example, has no built-in DVD drive. If a program (pick one, flight simulator, games, etc) requires a DVD, I'm going to fix it so I can use it when on an airplane or in a car.

Actually you can move the Chessbase Komodo, but it happens in two Steps. You have to deactivate it on your first machine, then using the same activation code, activate it on the second machine. I am pretty sure Chessbase allows a certain number of simultaneous activations for a given purchase, but I do not know the limit.
