Beekay 5.1a 64-bit Chess Engine

Post by Norbert Raimund Leisner »

Hello,

who of you has still Beekay 5.1a 64-bit Chess Engine? It was an abandoned branch of Komodo.

This engine is mentioned here:

http://www.computerchess.org.uk/ccrl/40 ... _list.html
http://kirill-kryukov.com/chess/discuss ... 8&start=25

I possess Komodo 5, 5.1-r1 and 5.1-r2 of course, but -as far I know- Beekay 5.1a was no component of this commercial package.

Best wishes,
Norbert

If I remember correctly, Beekay is not the last of an abandoned branch, but was/is the progenitor of the current branch of Komodo. Don needed to do a rewrite in order to make Komodo a SMP engine. Beekay is a product of that rewrite.

The Beekay engine was the first Komodo engine written in C++11. Komodo 2,4,5 and 5 CCT were all written in C. Komodo 5.1 MP was major rewrite of Komodo 5 in C++11 and offered SMP. Komodo CCT is stronger than Komodo 5.1 when used single core mode. More information can be found here.

I am currently in the tedious process of refactoring + rebuilding the RWBC chronology. During this I first heard about StrongChess, but IMHO the one
you received is not the one which you found on Github!
First of all the original one (around 4 years old BTW) was created by an Brazilian named Elemar Rodrigues Jr. (a real person because one could follow his link), while the second
one which should somehow received (by whom?) suddenly calls some Mirko Mirkovicz Serbisjan the author.

Much worse is that the program you received obviously is one of the hundreds of robbolito/ippolit or similar clones/derivates instead which can
be seen already from the uci options.
Also the source I see at Github for the real Strongchess has nothing in common with this program.

So for now I will add none of them until a real compilation of the real strongchess appears.
(I guess the source is not complete at all - after the author started a 'huge refactoring' in 2012 but stopped working on it)

Hello,

this chess engine is available on GitHub ~
https://github.com/ElemarJR/StrongChess

The download link on the website http://www.autochess.com/forum/strong-chess-t2022.html does no longer exist or was deleted for any reasons.

Best wishes,
Norbert
Well, if I follow the link from that post above it appears that even a more likely explanation is that both persons are the same and he tried to send his clone around which was later deleted from the first download link.
And the 'huge refactoring' mentioned at github was either removing all traces to robbolito, or this was during his first attempt of a real chess program, but later he simply changed to cloning something already available to get some merits in some obscure communities...

Edit a further search revealed this:
source: Owl Chess Engines Blitz

Code: Select all

Friday, August 15, 2014
StrongChess 1.0 x64 - Gauntlet Matches, 1M+1S
StrongChess 1.0 x64 is a UCI chess engine by Mirko Mirkovicz Serbisjan released last January 27, 2013. It is an Ippolit chess engine clone.

StrongChess 1.0 scored 45.3% with 302 wins, 472 losses and 1026 draws against the selection of top Ippolit clones. It posted a 2947.7 ELO rating and currently number 24 in the Owl Rating List - Best Versions.
Case closed for me.
