ChessGeniusClassic as WB/UCI engine?

Post by Norbert Raimund Leisner »

Hello,

I suggested Richard to create such an adapter because only an additional converter Genius2WinBoard or Gen2UCI would probably solve this problem:

Another example is SMIRF, a native engine that plays 10x8 variant or normal chess on its own graphical interface
http://www.10x8.net/chess/SMIRF.html - but it can be used with external frontends (Arena, ChessGUI, WinBoard) as WinBoard-compatible chess engine because of Smirfoglot http://home.hccnet.nl/h.g.muller/smirf.html, a special adapter written by H.G.Muller

And the two main protpcols, WinBoard and UCI are nowadays free available for downloads and can be used by hundred of chess programs:

UCI Chess Engine Protocol ~ http://www.shredderchess.com/download.html
Chess Engine Communication Protocol ~ http://hgm.nubati.net/CECP.html

What are your impressions about this recommendation?

Best wishes,
Norbert

Hi,
ChessGenius Classic is a GUI... Which can run several engines.
ChessGenius engine for PC is a 16bits engine, thus limited to old 32bits operating systems; it does not seem worth the update for years - my guess is technical and business issue.
So very little hope for an UCI adaptor, TMHO

orig post...What we really could use (for the smart folks in the forum) is a converter so the chess genius gui (GENG7) engine can be used in Arena and Chessbase so it could finally be fully tested out of the w16 Chessgenius GUI
Thx.......AAR :)

I have no plans for any further work on ChessGenius Classic. It's 16 bit and
will not run on modern PC's.

Well........I guess thats that then.......AR :)
