In search for opening books

Post by Rebel »

For my next theme based tournament I am looking for the official (available?) Polyglot opening books of the following engines.

Komodo 9.42 - offers one on the website, so no problem.

Stockfish 7 - can't find any.

Andscacs 0.86 - has one available.

Gull 3.01 - can't find any.

Rybka 4.1 - can't find any.

iCE 3.0 - has one.

Nirvanachess - can't find any.

Equinox 3.30 - can't find any.

---------

Any help would be appreciated.

There is a small, old Polyglot book for SF 2.3.1 made by Salvo Spitaleri, probably official:

Stockfish Opening Book 2.3.1

The mirror link is still active.

SF testing framework uses two books: 2moves_v1.pgn and 8moves_v3.pgn... well, they may not be books themselves but a bunch of positions to start from in a game.

I have found 2moves_v1.zip (EPD) and 2moves_v1.pgn.zip (PGN), but I do not know if it is the current version.

I finally found a GitHub link for EPD and PGN files: it has been a while since I saw it the last time!

You might be able to convert {EPD, PGN} to BIN if you think that these files are official enough. But they are not books themselves, so probably it is not what you are looking for.

------------------------

There is a Rybka 4 book by Jiri Dufek, but it is CTG, of course:

Rybka 4 opening book for Aquarium

I do not know if there is a way to conver CTG to BIN or other format.

------------------------

I wish you good luck.

Regards from Spain.

The varied.bin I use for testing Andscacs is from don't remember where :-) probably an old engine. Is "anything goes", so depending on what you want to do with it, is not very advisable.

Be aware that this is the same book that shipped with Komodo 3 five years ago. Many of the others just recommend the "performance.bin" book that Fruit originally used.

Book making seems to be a lost art now that rating lists determine strength instead of head-to-head tournaments. Hiarcs seems to be one of the last groups that continually update their books.

Looks that way indeed.

Then okay, I will skip that part of the tournament. The idea was to let engines play from predefined strategic opening / middlegame positions and then repeat it with opening book and learning on.

Jeroen is currently preparing the positions, expect some fireworks.
