A friend lost access to his databases when the win 10 upgrade was forced on him and CB is saying to buy the new one.
The program comes up and most features work, however it tells him to enter the authorization code when he tries to access the databases. He still has it and he did, but it doesn't do any good.
My guess is that win 10 changed the physical dir paths to the software and now the software is looking for the authorization file which likely exists in the current directory, but CB 11 is looking for it with the full old path which doesn't exist.
Has anybody had experience with this?
For those still using win 7 or 8, can you please tell me the full path to the CB 11 directory/folder?
Maybe some shortcuts/symlinks can be introduced to fake the old path?

Re: ChessBase 11 and Windows 10
Hello Charles,
cf. ChessBase 11 sytem requirements here:
http://shop.chessbase.com/en/products/c ... SPDZKGN51F
I have only Windows 7 + CB12, but could be an installation (once again) of the older Windows version on an external harddisk , probably with EasyBCD http://neosmart.net/EasyBCD/ <support@neosmart.net> a solution for his problem?
The access to online databases with CB11 finished at the end of the year 2012.
Can your friend roll back the operation system from Windows 10 to Windows 8.1/7 etc.? Essential data applications have to be saved before this procedure.
As far I know, the possibility to obtain a free Windows 10 upgrade
expires on 29th July 2016
By the way: A manual download of PGN files with lists of tournaments including results is another option:

Tools like PGN Editors/Readers/Viewers are mentioned on CCWiki

Best wishes,
Norbert

Re: ChessBase 11 and Windows 10
For me the statement of ChessBase " to buy the new one" is not clear:
A new Megabase 2016 http://shop.chessbase.com/en/products/m ... abase_2016 or a new ChessBase 13 Database product
http://shop.chessbase.com/en/categories/chessbase ?
System requirements for Mega Datbase 13:
1 GHz Pentium PC, Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7/Vista/XP, 512 MB RAM, DVD-ROM drive, ChessBase 12 or 13, Internet connection required for online updates.
Chessbase 11 is not explicitly mentioned there.
