White or Black? I do better with black.

Post by reflectionofpower »

I remember yesterday and I am looking at it now through CB 13 and statistically I do better with Black by a slight margin. I was curious so I downloaded a years worth of games, 5,000 to be exact and I checked it out through CB13 and I was shocked.

Get this.

Winning percentage:

White - 41.2%
Black - 52.7
Draws - 6.1

My theories are it is because I respond to what they dictate and I know the lines well AND I have to fight from the get go.

I play a lot of weird stuff though for black as opposed to White.

Just play a2-a3 and continue like you were playing with black. Advantage is that you only need to worry about defenses for black.

good point. Lately I have been playing black openings as white. Like reversed versions.

A friend emailed me this,

"I had a similar epiphany about my openings for black. I started off playing the sicilian against 1 .e4 and my rating gradually got a little bit better, but never really seemed to flourish. Then after a decade of playing the sicilian I switched over to that boring old petroff (petrov) I had disliked for so many years. Well it turns out that for my play style, the petroff was a much better fit. I started SEEING more things in the opening and struggling less to "come up with a plan" when things didn't go according to book.

It is quite possible that your black openings are suitable for your methods when playing black, but perhaps you need to adopt a different line for white.
Those statistics, combined with my personal experiences would lead me to that decision."
