Such a tool I need in a GUI.
Normely I would try to release it with Martin Blume. But I am working now a longer time not with Martin Blume.
At first:
Before an engine tournament started, not important how big (each one vs. each other), the GUI should create a test set of positions from a checked main *.pgn database. All games with random created by GUI should be play with white & black. First move should be saved later in *.pgn tournament database.
That is more easy as to try to produce such things with a book and random moves, sorted by popularity of openings. I am working since three years on such a book for Shredder GUI. Never it can be perfect.
With Arena we develops the PGN random feature. But this one can be make better today, maybe with Cutechess?
The tool by Volker created a test set by random from a bigger *.pgn database. I give only the information A00-A99 = x%, B00-B99 = y% and so one and the tool by Volker created the test-set.
All what we need is a database with equal opening book positions to all of the 500 ECO codes. Such a database I have interest to create after FCP Rating List for Wasp, Polyglod format. Material I have enough in my 300.000 games. Games with start positions from GM and correspondence chess undo move 6, 8, 10 optimated by engines undo move 12.
That is much more interesting as an opening book because an opening book can't create by random a perfect ECO allocation. I am working hard of it with my Shredder GUI book but it can be not perfect. I have here 90-95% and for my test-runs withI have in around 100 / 2450 cases double ECO codes between 50-games matches (I replayed sucht games during the test-run ... to many work). A great statistic I think but not perfect.
So with such a feature ...
Cutechess created by random the test-set of positions from a big database automatically before a tournament started we have much more fun and must not see again and again the same openings a normely test-set produced.
I am sure the team of Cutechess can realize such a simple Feature very easy. If I saw what the programmers of Cutechess do ... this idea should be not really a problem.

I have all the years the same opinion to opening books (the reason we created in Arena "PGN Random" before opening book features). Opening books are boring and in reality we don't need it for a Rating List or eng - eng matches, max for engines itself for tourneys and such things. All what we need is a strong PGN database and a GUI can using such a database.
