In terms of engine "personalities" it is quite difficult to perfectly emulate the style of play of a human GM and to be honest, most people tweaking have done a poor (maybe a little harsh, but not great) job with attempts at creating Tal, Kasparov, Capablanca etc personalities in engines.
To create a life like one requires a lot of testing, knowledge of the said grandmaster's games, career, prejudices and habits when evaluating a position.
Then the tweaker needs access to as many weights as possible beneath the dashboard (something Pawel has done beautifully with Rodent)
Last night I spent probably 5 hours (when I was supposed to be working) moving GUIs, so I packed up all of my engines in cardboard boxes, created some WB2UCI files and moved over to Fritz GUI...
One engine I loaded up was Deep Sjeng 1.0 and its packaged "Tal" personality.
I then started a new tournament before retiring for the evening and, this morning I checked the games.
WOW! DS 1.0 Tal actually plays like Tal! Nice Job!

What an impressive way to smash Fritz 7! Very Tal like...
I remember in 2002 at an Australian Junior Championships bookstall, I bought the Fritz 7 DVD which had only been out for a month or so...
Myself and another 2200ish player, played some blitz games against it and were laughing with joy as it destroyed us in such a NON-computer-like way, as if a strong GM was just toying with us.
Here's your revenge Fritzy!
P.S I lost interest in Fritz when Frans Morsch was no longer the author. It's simply not the same engine.
