New Similarity Dendrogram

Post by Laskos »

I don't want this thread be automatically moved to Engine Origins members sub-forum. So, please, no flame wars. I just wanted to notice we have good news: authors improved substantially their engines more by new generally available knowledge of what works and what not, than modifying other engines. All new strongest engines seem dissimilar.

To read this dendrogram, one has to look at junctions to the left. The yellow line and the left side of it are engines suspected of borrowing substantially from other related engines. We see that no new engine falls into this category, and this is good!

Any chance you could include Fizbo 1.8, Nirvanachess 2.3 and Booot 6.1 as well?

The top 3 are the closest, I guess this will only happen more, as stronger engines get "the right move" faster.

The positions are chosen to not have "best move". There is some enhancement of similarity with strength (time control, here 100ms/move), but it is _very_ mild.
