and quite a few programs back in 1996 were playing the move. in fact it was noted by Ed Schroder that Rebel Decade played the move from the 3rd ply..

Now days most programs will play d5 and they play it pretty fast.
Fast forward 21 years, as I was revewing the games played in a set I am running, it caught my eye that McBrain (a stockfish engine) played a seemingly similar pawn sacrifice d5! ( it was not a sacrifice as McBrain was up a knight at the expense of two pawns at move 43)
tc 2:30 /2.5 sec ( same as CCRL 40/4 for my machine)
tcec 8 superfinal openings, McBrain is also using Cerebellum book here

It takes McBrain , in single thread mode , about about 90 seconds to find it on my machine from a clean start, but the score quickly goes to 230+ shortly there after.
The games ends in a "kbnk" ending which you don't see too often with programs..
