Yeah, last time you were a bit late at the party. Lisebeth is very strict, she likes to start the tourney at exactly 20:00 CET.
It's better to logon some 15 mins. earlier if you don't want to miss it.

Re: On-line engine blitz tourney February
Belfish ended 1st place, Nightmare 2nd, Rofchade and Nemorino 3th.
It was a pretty heavy tournament, both rofChade and CoronaVirusChess were running on 64 cores, and there were several others with 32 cores.
It still amazes me to see how good a pretty simple NN does with the basic search that I'm using. The Cevdet book makes a difference too.
See you all next month!

Books make a huge difference for sure, even if you are +300 Elo to another engine, you may often simply end up with a draw when the opponent has a vastly superior book.Joost Buijs wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 10:33 pm It still amazes me to see how good a pretty simple NN does with the basic search that I'm using. CoronaVirusChess was on 32 cores, not 64 (it was crashing on more, trying 32 was a last minute fix, literally at 19:45 CET, after all else failed).Joost Buijs wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 10:33 pm Belfish ended 1st place, Nightmare 2nd, Rofchade and Nemorino 3th.

It has some evaluation and search tuning and some new ideas since last version, maybe 40 Elo in self test total, but that is still downhill compared to the numbers of NN programs increasing. Not sure about Belfish , but aren’t the top five or six in the chart all NN engines?

Belfish is a Stockfish derivative, I don't know whether it is based on SF NNUE or not.chrisw wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 11:17 amCoronaVirusChess was on 32 cores, not 64 (it was crashing on more, trying 32 was a last minute fix, literally at 19:45 CET, after all else failed).Joost Buijs wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 10:33 pm Belfish ended 1st place, Nightmare 2nd, Rofchade and Nemorino 3th.

Two months back I've added a NN, smaller than the regular NNUE, it seems to do a lot better than my old HCE, somehow it also helps to increase the search depth, maybe because the values are more regular. There is a lot of time involved in producing proper weights, it is all trial and error, sometimes it makes me crazy.
Nemorino, lczThinker, and Goldbar are also NN based, from the others I don't know.
Ethereal and Wasp are probably based on a NN too.

Nice to know. I thought Andrew is working on a Ethereal version with a smaller NN too. I can't keep track of who is using a NN or not.

Wasp does not have a NN eval, although I'm currently experimenting with NN's and so far my best net is only about 75 Elo worse than the HCE eval.
