Cutechess - errors

Post by Krzysztof Grzelak »

Personally, I like the program Cutechess. But there are bugs in this program Cutechess. But to the point. I downloaded the program that pages https://rwbc-chess.de/download.htm and ran a test of two chess engines. I stretched the program window a little and turned off the monitor with the button to save electricity. After about 5 minutes I turned on the monitor and noticed that the program window was zoomed out and was located in the left corner of the monitor. Another error I noticed is when the program is on the entire screen of the monitor is when I turn off the monitor on the front with a button and turn it back on, the individual program panes decrease. I used the latest Windows 10 x 64 bit H2 for testing the program.

This has nothing to do with CuteChess. Move the mouse before you turn on the monitor. It has to do with Windows power savings feature.

You write nonsense. The mouse has nothing to do with it.I turn off the monitor with the button on the monitor. Then I turn it on.

What happens with the window size etc of other things you leave open - web browser, notepad etc ? Even if this is a cutechess problem, unfortunately not much software is perfect so just enjoy it for what it does well. To me it is the best GUI of the lot. I don't think Cutechess is under active development, but if it is one of the developers may take a look and try and duplicate the issue so your post may be of good use.

I use Cutechess on a PC that I access via remote desktop. And yes when I remote back in the window sizes and positions have changed, font sizes as well sometimes. But that is not just cutechess, it is the same for any other application I have open.

This issue has nothing to do with cutechess. Although it may certainly appear like it does.

Things to about if you are interested in getting at the root cause:
How many monitors?
Are you using a laptop?
Are the current resolutions sizes consistent on all monitors?
Are you using non standard resolutions?
Are you using any type of power savings options?
Were any setting changes are the computer was turned on?
Do it happen with one monitor connected from power up to monitored being turned off?
and I could go on and on.

But it's not cutechess....it is coming from the OS. I have seen this happen a lot with laptops and if either an attached monitor gets turned off or if you shut the laptop lid ( with "lid shut" set to do nothing of course). Welcome to Windows.

Please don't write nonsense. I use a desktop computer - a 24 inch monitor.

What is nonsensical is your stated position that cutechess is affecting your display from the simple act of the pressing the monitor's power switch off and on. Sayonara, will not longer bother to read or respond to any future posts.

The answer to the original poster - don't turn your monitor off. It saves only a tiny amount of power. It will go to sleep of its own accord after a period of inactivity to save power, and when it wakes up again with movement of the mouse say, everything should be identical.

As for Mike's comments Welcome to Windows - well it is a thousand times better than the alternatives

I expect the program, as well as many other people, without errors. If there are bugs, the program should never be released for use by other people. And there's no pity and sorry.

You have a very bad day, don't you?
If your expectations come true, the world will be free from any software.
