Is TalkChess Server available om Discord.com

I would recommend @HGM to start TalkChess Forums on Discord.com. I know that you guys are already aware of it.

The Discord.com will help members to ask live questions and get live answers. Administration will be real time as well..

If the TalkChess Forum is already in discord then please share its invitation link.

This forum serves its purpose. I see no reason to migrate it to a platform that others are not accustomed to. There are plenty of discords for computer chess as is.

One cannot create threads on discord. So it would not be suitable for Talkchess.

Discord is just a chat program. Of which there are many.

Talkchess did have a discord set up as an alternative last year because the site went down for a few days. I am no longer on the talkchess discord, but there might still be a few people on here who still have access and could send you a link.

Discord is a chat platform in my view, not suitable for what is required here.

The (inofficial) TalkChess server can be reached using this link:
https://discord.gg/4XrN67RJ4R

It is currently not actively used though and most of the discussions happen in engine-specific (SF, LC0 etc) or tournament-specific Discords (TCEC, CCC).

For example - I hear about 'discords'...but do not have a clue what this is. What are they?

I set it up purely as an emergency communication platform. If it’s being used, then that means talkchess is down.

Discord is basically a chat-room platform; a modern version of IRC. You install the Discord client, make an account, log in, and join one of the "discords" (rooms). Then you can chat with other people in that room. (By typing text; but maybe Discord also has audio nowadays; I don't know yet. I have not used this platform. I might, in the future, if I can get something out of it.)

It can be a nice way to quickly and interactively talk about stuff, but for some things a forum is better, because it can archive the threads and make them searchable. In this and other forums, I've found helpful information that was 20-25 years old. Discord does not have such capability (yet), AFAIK.
