Mr. Kaufman, when do we expect to see Elo settings on Komodo?

Post by Chessqueen »

Mr. Kaufman, when do we expect to see Elo settings on Komodo? I have been waiting for a long time to see Komodo with Elo settings from 1200 to 2850 where we humans can select an Elo to play against it, and NOT Skill Level ? It could be incremented by 100's for instance from 1200 to 1300 to 1400 all the way up to 2850 for Carlsen to play if he wants to play against it. Since we humans prefer that option to practice against it, and slowly play harder Elo settings as we progress to a higher strength.

I'm thinking that maybe we can just make each skill level the same as the estimated Elo rating (with two zeroes added). So then Skill 18 would be 1800 FIDE (estimated human rating at 15' + 10" time limit using one thread) for example. We would probably have 35 Skill levels if we do this since full strength Dragon on one thread is somewhere around 3500 Elo at Rapid. I'll need some human data once we have finalized the engine for the next release. That's really the only problem. For elo 1850 (for example), just set threads to 2 (or whatever we recommend) to boost the elo by fifty.

Simply release it with the Next version and we Humans eventually will test those Elo settings and let you know if they need need further adjustments. Another thing that you can also do is to have 6 or 8 games matches against lower rated players, just like the matches that you have against GMs at Knight Odds.

Note: The other options would be to send me a Beta version, since I I knows different players with different Elos from 1200 to 2400 that I can test it against on the Chess Club. My Gmail is ==> pichardojnsc2@gmail.com

Since the new version isn't ready yet, and we wouldn't want to delay it much for this, the most useful thing you could do is to have any players you know with ratings determine their best match with Dragon 2 one thread Skill level at 15' + 10" ( as you did with Jorge). If we know what Skill level equals what FIDE rating with Dragon 2, we can calibrate the levels on the new version by playing against Dragon 2 skill levels. For now, I'm using Dragon 2 skill level x 114 = FIDE rating, but if we get new data that justifies changing the 114 coefficient I'll adjust it.
