Video demonstrating an accessible board for the Blind and Visually Impaired on iPad and Android Tablet
I"ve been asked what exactly is accessibility in chess apps and i thought a video with the screen reader on, on iOS and Android might be a better way to show how it works. I'd say 99% of chess apps are not accessible right now. For the blind, Chess is still in the dark ages when it comes to accessibility. I demo this a bit on iPad showing how the LiChess app on iPad and Small chess are not accessible ( not to pick on them very few are).

Nice eye-opening (if I may put it that way!
) video - I gave it a like: if you're going to compete with top YouTubers like Mr Beast, you'll need a better camera, better background, better socks, prepared scripts, tablet computer screen on view at all times (not sure about iPad, but Android has apps that can directly record what's on the screen), time spent editing the video afterwards, etc. To be fair, though, Mr Beast hasn't made any videos about accessibility in tablet computer chess programs!
Human chess is partly about tactics and strategy, but mostly about memory

Thanks for the kind and funny comments; I got a kick out of it yesterday. I read up on mister beast last night. 100 million subscribers might be out of reach with present production tech. I kind of see this video in the tradition of the developer demo where he/she demos his latest project to the stake holders(in this case i see society needs to know more and is a stakeholder) and uses the presentation and social skills they may have.adams161 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 10:14 pm

I"m also aiming this video as a demo to chess developers and people with apps in the App Store and Play Store. I've responded to my post i made 2 years ago in the technical forum today on how to make iOS apps accessible now with what i've learned on android. http://talkchess.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=70420
The video is included now at the end of the response as a demo to these developers who read the technical info or scan it and wonder what does this really do.
In this video we see the lichess play the computer mode on iPad and i assume iPhone is not accessible or usable by the blind and Visually impaired. It can be. The technical info on iOS is very easy to work with. And Smallchess is shown not to be accessible, but it can be too.
More important to me than if i get over a million views is can more apps have accessible boards on iOS and Android. It is a desert out there for the blind who play chess. Did you know there are 4000 members in the Indian Chess Federation for the blind as well. And there's blind chess players. who don't join federations. And there's a lot of seriously visually impaired people who can see some things like blurs of areas but need a screen reader to make out what is there but they may see where they tap.
