Problem with InfinityChess GUI under Win 10

Post by Eduard »

Problem with InfinityChess GUI under Win 10:

I have the problem that in Centaur mode when starting a game (against Human, against Centaur and against an Engine) the board is not displayed and the GUI hangs. I can only close everything via the task manager.

GUI is a very old 32 bit application. For the solution of some problems, are on the InfinityChess homepage
http://www.infinitychess.com/Downloads offered some old drivers.

I have a 2 year old Ryzen computer (Win 10 Pro) and a 2 week old laptop with Win 10 Home. I have activated hardware security on both of these computers, which will be required for Win 11.

The GUI hangs in the mentioned mode on both of these computers. But I still have an 11-year-old laptop that used to have Win 7 installed and now also Windows 10 Home. I have no problems with the old laptop, the mode starts and you can also see the board.

I am at a loss. Both of my new PCs did not want to install the InfinityChess (4.5) framework because a newer version was found on the PC. Is it because of that?

When starting a game on my newer PCs, this message appears:

If I close the window, only this appears:

GUI is hung up (no board to seen) and I can only use the task manager to get out.

When installing Framework 4.5 (from InfinityChess homepage) this appears:

I just don't know which drivers are needed for the new X64 PCs with Winsdwos 10. I also described the problem in the InfinityChess forum, but I think that there are maybe some software experts who can help? Thanks.

Thanks! No new drivers needed. It works now. I am not allowed to install to > "programs x86" in the operating system, because it does not work in Centaur mode. But directly on partition C, for example "C:\Chess\InfinityChess\InnovativeSolutions\" (or other partition) the Centaur mode now works without any problems.

I guessed you had fixed it, since you were there last Sunday.

No. On Sunday I trained with my 11 year old laptop. I only had an engine loaded on the second PC (offline). I am happy that it has been working better since yesterday. I hope you enjoy the tournament!

Today I had the mentioned problem in Centaur mode again. The error was corrected with help on the server. The reason was as follows: If you are playing with an engine in computer-mode and you have loaded a BIX-book, the BIX-book remains loaded even if you change the mode to Centaur. The BIX-book must be unloaded before switching to Centaur mode.

It works like this:

1. Select the "Computer" playing mode.
2. Select Define "CTG book"
3. Load the CTG book and an engine.
4. Click on OK.
5. Now select "Centaur" again "
6. The BIX-book is no longer loaded, and there are no more error messages.

But now I have another problem. All engines show a wrong evaluation. It is always shown from the point of view of black.

If White is +2 in front, the engine evaluates it with -2.
If Black is +2 in front, the engine also rates it with -2.

Here is a game I just played on the server:

[Event "Long 30' + 30'', Unrated"]
[Site "?"]
[Date "2021.11.10 3:12 PM"]
[Round "?"]
[White "SolistaChess"]
[Black "Solista [ct]"]
[WhiteEngine "Cfish_x64_250621_ELTO_AVX2_sparse"]
[BlackEngine ""]
[Result "*"]
[PlyCount "7"]
[TimeControl "1800+30:20/3600:1800"]
[ECO "C40"]
[WhiteElo "2450"]
[BlackElo "2450"]

1.e4 {[%emt 0][%B] [%brdimg 0] [%M,,%M]} e5 {[%emt 6] [%col 0 %col] [%brdimg 0] [%M,,%M]} 2.Nf3 {[%emt 1][%B] [%brdimg 0] [%M,,%M]} d5 {[%emt 2] [%col 0 %col] [%brdimg 0] [%M,,%M]} 3.exd5 {[%emt 1][%B] [%brdimg 0] [%M,,%M]} c6 {[%emt 2] [%col 0 %col] [%brdimg 0] [%M,,%M]} 4.Nxe5 { [%eval 2,46/39][%emt 34] [%col 0 %col] [%brdimg 0] [%M,,%M]}

As a Centaur I had black here, white is an engine. In the notation, the engine (the opponent) correctly rates his position with +2.46. My Kibitz-Engine (Also Cfish) rated it like this:

[fen]rnbqkbnr/pp3ppp/2p5/3PN3/8/8/PPPP1PPP/RNBQKB1R b KQkq - 0 4[/fen]

Black is winning -+ -2,21 Depth: 28 00:00:12 71790 kN
4...Bd6 5.d4
Black is winning -+ -2,34 Depth: 28 00:00:12 74308 kN

Oh no! Black is not winning! I'll lose if I rely on my kibitz engine.
