Cross-tables ... Norm Pollock statistics, a big problem!

Post by Frank Quisinsky »

Hi there,

I can give a *.pgn file and tools give me the answere of many questions.
All is wonderful ...

But what I missed is to to that round-by-round.

Have a look here:
This one I have to do for FCP Tourney-2022.
And all this for different compatibility reasons with Chessbase PGN and at second I do the same with Chess-Explorer, ChessPad and the "CleanUp" tool by Norm ...

52x Chess-Base PGN
52x Chess-Pad PGN

104 pgn files for 26 rounds I have to create for statistics.

If I give a tools like summary, resultlist, ecolist or others (tools from Norm Pollack) a complex *.pgn file it would be wonderful if I get the statsitics round-by-round .. if I wish ... for every round in new *.txt files.

Same for the cross-tables.
So I have not working on all the *.pgn files for a complex tournament (I lost here many time to do that).

Cross-table:
Somu by Ed can do it, ChessBase database can do it but no program can do it round-by-round with "One" *.pgn file only.

With other words:
A *.pgn file, included are 50 rounds for an example, should be able to give me a cross-table for all 50 rounds and 50 cross-tables for each of the rounds in 50 new *.txt files. Such things I missed here for each of the tools, summary, resultlist, ecolist and so one, the somu tool by Ed and many other tools we have.

Best
Frank

Hi Frank,

To separate a pgn file into rounds, you would use 2 tools in 40H-tools.

First, you need to know the names of the rounds, which you probably know. In case you did not know:

tagValue alpha.pgn Round

the output is in file "outVal" which can be read by a text editor

Second, to extract the games of a round:

tagExtract alpha.pgn Round "value"

for example
tagExtract alpha.pgn Round "1.1"

the output is in outT.pgn

You would have to do this for each Round.

I hope this helps.

I forgot to mention that you have to rename the output file after each use of pgnExtract, otherwise it will be overwritten by the next execution of pgnExtract.

For example:

pgnExtract alpha.pgn Round "1"
ren outT.pgn T1.pgn
