Hi Chessmaster fans.
I have an old CM5000 CD. Is the only way of getting CM 5000 working on my system to create a virtual machine and install Win 95/98 on it?
I've tried that and run into problems, just wondering if there are other workarounds. Are these old windows progs available to download in an equivalent to DOSBox or something?
Thanks.

CM5000 is working fine here even in Win 10 (64bit) - you just have to set the 'compatibility mode' for 'cm5000.exe' to Windows 95 or Windows 98 (it's in the context menu, right-click on the exe-file).

Re: Chessmaster question
It won't even install on my Windows 11 machine. I'll try on a Win 10 device.

Wow, I am glad now that I did not upgrade (Windows 11) yet; I would be pissed if the upgrade broke this app.

Well, installation might be a problem of course - I have just a installed zip-package of CM5000.
But you could try to also set this compatibility mode to the install/setup file, maybe this helps?
If not, then try to simply copy the CM5000 program files from the CD to your HD, maybe they run without installation?

Re: Chessmaster question
That's almost impossible!
If you check this compatibility box, then you can (and have to!) select the wanted Windows version from the menu below -
it shows all versions from Windows 95 to Windows 8.

Re: Chessmaster question
I'm sure it shows those options on your machine, but I don't see them on mine. (Win 10 64, updates within a few days)
Here's a quick vid showing what I did so if I'm missing something please say:

Re: Chessmaster question
Well, maybe they have changed this option with any Win10 update.
I don't install Windows updates, because my system is working perfectly since years without this permanent update crap.
Sorry, but that's so tiny that i can't read anything. Here's a quick vid showing what I did so if I'm missing something please say:

If you change quality to 4K on the youtube settings it's more readable.
But yes, it's changed.
