Mate after 23 ... the classical bishop sacrifice by Rubi!

Post by Frank Quisinsky »

Hi there,

thinking on Helmut Wieteck (German chess book author, wrote more as 40 chess books).
Two books with the topic "Läuferopfer" ...

Here Rubi give mate after 23 moves!

A very nice game for replaying, I saw it live on my PC (danger for cardiac infarction in the near).
Have fun with it.

yes, Qb6 is a super-blunder that loses on the spot. 2.5k engines would play Bxh7 after that as well.
something feels odd here. How much time did Halogen spend on that move and what was the TC?

Beautiful! One for the archives.

There is still hope for us humans!

Nakamura and MVL being among the few humans with a chance of playing the exact same moves from 9. ... Qb6 as white!

Hi Martin, clicking on c8 gives the full pgn for the interactive pgn script, but as it is in one of those 'ugly'
(and a bit broken) formats, it is not parsed correctly here. Here is a transformed version:

Depth 23 in 29s looks quite low though? OTH it probably did not expect 9. h4! so probably no hash entries for it.

A surprising blind spot by Halogen 10
This is with the same hash as in the game (768MB), but of course the nopop version on my old hardware.

I fed the whole game in analysis mode until 7. Bd3 then I let it think till depth 29 for the move 7...c5
to simulate the conditions as close as possible, then I entered 8. h4 and let it think again and really
it came up with Qb6, but strangely at depth 26 at 0.22 eval (White POV), which looks exactly reversed to what
the original pgn had saved? (eval/depth reversed?)

Thanks Guenther,

29s seems plenty, so it seems that Halogen indeed has some KS (can one say this about NN engines?)/tactics issues..
such things happen sometimes - I think Halogen itself would play Bxh7 relatively quickly after Qb6?

Same procedure as described before with Halogen 10.22 (my compilation).
No sign of Qb6 anymore, but after over 600M nodes it seems to come up with h5?!, which doesn't look convincing either.
(weakens g5 forever and the K-side is still vulnerable)

Code: Select all

Re: Mate after 23 ... the classical bishop sacrifice by Rubi!

Post by Frank Quisinsky »

Hi there,

sorry, I used the ChessBase PGN from the databases I generated the Elo calculation.
In my *.zip file (all files to the FCP-Tourney-KI) are the original PGNs with ChessPad info to ECO and different ChessBase CBH databases. This will be updated after round 20 of 30 today in the late evening.

Best
Frank

An interesting move is 09. h4 in my opinion (looks very aggressive).
But I have not analyze this with engines (will do it later).

Here the original PGN:
