ChessBase even dedicated some 'Study of the Month' articles to this composer last year:The following study still holds the world record for the longest not-promoting pawn endgame where the black king moves to more than two fields (as in Van_Dijk 1968, Reichhelm 1913 or Bláthy 1890 where the kings are bound by promotion threats). It is one of only seven pawn endgames longer than 30 moves. I wonder why it never appeared in the endgame literature.

This is Rebel 14.1 MOD (Fruit based search). I think the eval after one second is pretty good 
A mate result seems impossible with the just one thread search and 512 Mb hash. 14.c3 continues to go wrong, that is a draw only, But the position before is checked with Stockfish, extend that a bit and that is win for White in about 39 moves at . Together with the 23 moves before it total would be 62 or 61 moves I think.
From Rebel's PV extended by SF to 23 moves, (without 14.c3) I have not checked if it makes sense, just the final position after 13 Ka5 Kc7. Caveat for Ed: Toga based Rebel does not have a verification search at all at the moment, where Fruit has a minimal one piece plus King only from Fabien. Minimal check for Zugzwang in other words. So it is easy to put that back in again, Fabien created a full verification search backbone, it was 'optimized' away by Voodoo magicians in Toga
like it was many times in Stockfish, it only costs Elo

In Toga, Zugzwang detection is only by checking beforehand if the hash result is >= beta. This is missing in Fruit and Pavel's Fruit. Pavel's Fruit has stronger reduction in nullmove, borrowed, and acknowledged as such, from Stockfish. hash result though, if it wants to avoid Zugzwang cases at this point, has to be backed up by a verification search (otherwise it is a lottery if it works), the more so because the nullmove result is also stored in hash -in Fruit and Toga- and this will count as a key for new nullmove search -in Toga-, without checking for Zugzwang -in Toga- (Fruit has verification for simple endgames, mostly enough, so there this works better already). Stockfish will only store the verification search, not the nullmove search at the same height, mainly to save some room and because it wants the verification search result here, not nullmove search. But if nullmove is backed up by verification, in almost all cases, by increasing the number of pieces in do_ver() from Fabien, storing nullmove is I think not a problem, I left it in in the Fruit based MOD because it seemed better.Eelco de Groot wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 6:45 am
From Rebel's PV extended by SF to 23 moves, (without 14.c3) I have not checked if it makes sense, just the final position after 13 Ka5 Kc7. Caveat for Ed: Toga based Rebel does not have a verification search at all at the moment, where Fruit has a minimal one piece plus King only from Fabien. Minimal check for Zugzwang in other words. So it is easy to put that back in again, Fabien created a full verification search backbone, it was 'optimized' away by Voodoo magicians in Toga
