Cloud Rental Virtual Machine

Post by Werewolf »

Hi,

Does anyone know the answer to this?

I'm looking to rent a virtual machine with approx. 100+ physical CPU cores for Aquarium analysis.

Do you have any recommendations? I'm trying Azure but they are a bit funny about dealing with individuals rather than a company. I've heard there is a big variety in price between AWS / Azure / IBM etc.

Many thanks!

Azure quote has come in (Finally!) at £1/hour. I was hoping for less. Any thoughts?

I also have been searching for cloud engines to replace my own ageing 100+ core Aquarium IDeA system, but as you pointed out they seemed to be all catering for small business and upwards companies rather than the general public.

So far I have not found anything cheaper than your £1/hour.

If you are fine with monthly rentals check Hetzner. You can have 5950x from 111eur/month (0.154eur/h). So 96 physical cores comes up to 0.93eur/h.
There is also 32 cores Epyc (7502P) for ~140eur/month.

Not sure about 100 cores, dont even know UCS equipment like that. General VPS I like digitalocean a lot, I've also been moving over to Hetzner as well. More options and if you're in the states there is no VAT so you can get a great bang for the buck.

If you're really looking for a super beast, best bet is probably AWS. Think the largest instance I've ever seen was 64 cores though and would cost you a small country.

If you have Chessbase or Fritz, they have their cloud computing option and have seen 64core machines there.

Good luck :)

Thanks. I had a feeling you'd know about this.
