For some reason people use this engine for games with fairy pieces like Amazon but I do not know if fairystockfish is the best in games of the type pawns against Amazons.
I think that first step is to do a tournament of engines in pawns against amazons positions to see if fairystockfish is really the best.
Same is for other games like pawns against queens.
I am not sure if stockfish is really the best to play games like pawns against queens when there are X pawns against a king and Y queens and there are pawns in the first rank when one side even has no king and it is not clear what are the rules of the game.
I can guess that a pawn can go 2 moves forward only when it is in the second rank and that the target of the side who cannot make checkmate because the opponent has no king is to capture all the opponent pieces but it is not clear and it is not clear if it is a draw if the side with no king has pieces and no moves.
First step is to define the rules of the game and second step to have a list of engines that play by the rules and third step is make some engine-engine tournament to decide about the best engine.
I doubt if it is going to be fairyfish in every type of game and I rememember Queeny to be stronger than stockfish with knights against Queens in the past.
Of course even with normal chess pieces part of the engines cannot play with more than 8 pawns because they may have a piece list that allow only 8 pawns or unable to play with pawns in the first rank because they assume no pawns there.
Is fairy stockfish the best engine for fairy chess?
