SF 15 and SF 14.1 in HTC110

Post by Jouni »

SF 15 is greatly improved in test positions. In 110 HTC positions it solves 70, when SF 14.1 solves only 55! And uses totally 30% less time. Biggest impact had this late patch:

Author: KJE-98
Date: Sun Apr 17 21:38:05 2022 +0200
Timestamp: 1650224285

Decrease LMR at PV nodes with low depth.

Example position [fen]rk6/p1r3p1/P3B1Kp/1p2B3/8/8/8/8 w - - 0 1[/fen]

Analysis by Stockfish 15:

1.Bd7 h5 2.Kf7 b4 3.Ke7 b3 4.Kd8 b2 5.Bxc7#
+- (#5) Depth: 15/10 00:00:00 270kN, tb=285

I think it means 'Hard TalkChess'. It is a test suite with different versions among years, ones dropping some problems and others adding new ones.

110 problems are mentioned in this ChessBase article, with a link to TalkChess forum.

While Jouni answers where you can exactly find those positions, you can do a fast search at TalkChess using advanced search: "Hard TalkChess" (with quotes) at keywords and search in Computer Chess Club: General Topics.

I use 110 positions from HardTalkChess. My own selection. Shows great improvement. But note: mate solving is worse in SF15.
