Banksia--How to make opening book
Hello, when first try to make a Banksia database from a pgn database, the window cannot find a pgn file. My understanding is that I have to first make a Banksia database in order to make an opening book.

To select a PGN file, just click on the button with the icon folder at the end of the box "input". You may drag and drop the PGN file into that box. Or you may copy, and paste the PGN path as the below box. All other options can be left as default values. Then click the button "Process".

BSG can create Opening books both from PGN and OCGDB files as the below illustration. OCGDB may be much faster.

If you or someone prefer a console/command-line program, download the program oobs from https://github.com/nguyenpham/oobs/releases, then run such as (to create a Polyglot book named big.bin from a PGN file named big.pgn):
or run it without any argument for the usage help.
Code: Select all
oobs -create -in big.png -out big.bin -cpu 4https://banksiagui.com

Many thanks, I am straight with that now. One last question, after making the opening book, if I want the an engine to use my new opening book for a game against a human, how is this possible.
Thanks again in advance,
Gerald

You need to add the new book to BSG. Go to Settings dialog, tab Book/Egtb then click on the button add (with icon +), select your new book and all is done. When you play vs an engine, BSG will auto-play book moves for the engine side.

BTW, right after creating a book, you may need a quick check that book. The easiest way is to drag and drop that book into BSG. BSG will auto display the content of the book as a tree as the below image (for Polyglot) or a data table (for OBS). If you can't see that tree, there may be something wrong with the book.
Have fun playing
