Jay and Finn generously giving me time to sneak ahead. Although Jay is still at work -- just on a more scientific spree than an elo gaining one.

Round-the-clock engine development can be pretty tiring and demoralizing. And Blunder is nowhere near the level of Koivisto, so I can't imagine how much more testing and writing code, and more testing there is when your engine is 3000+. And then life happens too. So I wouldn't be surprised if the Koivisto team took more than a couple of months off :)

Most answers here summarize it pretty well. Kim has a lot to do in real life currently and I decided to take some time off after I finished my degree and go travel to Indonesia with a backpack. I’ll be home in about 1 week and potentially continue my work. In fact I am trying to remotely control a few things and get a few patches in by other people which is mostly bug fixes.

Koivisto seems to benefit nicely from tablebases (when playing endings)

Code: Select all

Score of Koivisto8.16 TB vs Koivisto8.16: 112 - 58 - 330 [0.554]
... Koivisto8.16 TB playing White: 68 - 19 - 163 [0.598] 250
... Koivisto8.16 TB playing Black: 44 - 39 - 167 [0.510] 250
... White vs Black: 107 - 63 - 330 [0.544] 500
Elo difference: 37.7 +/- 17.6, LOS: 100.0 %, DrawRatio: 66.0 %
500 of 500 games finished.
