It does NOT matter if they are modified Stockfish clone, as long as they are one of the best Mate Finder according to the Title of this post.

ChestUCI (free) and Gustav (commercial) are still unbeaten imho.

Proving the shortest mate and proving it is one problem
Proving a mate that does not have to be the shortest mate is a different problem.
Finding the shortest mate without proving it is the shortest mate is a different problem.

I am not sure if chest or Gustav are best in the second task.
For example
How much time do you need to see a mate score with them from the following position?

Here I could prove mate in at most 19 moves and I guess that some strong chess engines can also see that white mate in 19 moves or less if you give them many hours.
[fen]8/p2N3n/p5n1/2P2Qpb/p1P4r/p1P4p/K5kB/8 w - - 1 35[/fen]

It is possible to make a competition with hard chess positions to prove a mate and give every engine an hour to search.
When the rules are the following:
The engines that showed the smallest distance to mate after an hour is the winner of the position(assuming no bug and you can prove later that the mate is correct and if there is a bug of false mate claim then it is out of the competition).
If more than one engine got the same distance then the engine that got the distance faster is the winner.

Of course the winner may be dependent on the positions.
A possible way to choose the positions is to analyze a big data of pgn games and include every position when the score of stockfish after one second is between +7 and +20 for the side to move in the contest.

About choosing the positions to compare different mate finders you can also take chess positions when humans resigned to see what percentage of mates different programs can find.

Here are 2 hard positions from my last OTB games
First one I resigned with white against a GM
Second one my opponent resigned with white against me.

How many hours do you need to find a forced mate against white in everyone of them?

[fen]8/4p3/3pk2p/PR5P/3p1b2/7r/2P4r/3RB1K1 w - - 5 44 [/fen]
[fen]6k1/5pp1/4p3/p1R5/2P2K1p/5P1P/Pbr3P1/8 w - - 0 34 [/fen]

I specify: Chest and Gustav are unrivaled when it comes to finding Mate in X puzzles/problems.
Matefish is only competitive at shorter mates probably.
