According to Dragon 3.1 Most of his moves were 2nd and 3rd Best

Post by Chessqueen »

GM Nakamura became the FIDE Chess960 World Champion, but if you see this video most of his moves were 2nd and 3rd Best, which clearly tell me that Dragon can give Nakamura Knight Odds in Chess960 with the same time control as it was played. I bet anything that Nakamura will NOT refuse an offer to play versus Dragon at Knight Odds, even if he became the World Champion

How do you conclude from "most of his moves were 2nd and 3rd Best" that Dragon can give him knight odds in 960 Rapid? Playing 2nd or 3rd best moves in non-critical positions may be quite sufficient to win with an extra knight, as long as you don't do this when only one move is playable. I'm sure that there is some time limit at which FRC knight odds would be about an even match between Dragon and Naka, but we don't have much data to go on to say what that time limit would be. In normal chess I think the break-even time limit for knight odds would be between 1' + 1" and 2' + 1", based on extrapolating from games with GM Lenderman, who needs something like 6' + 1" for a fair match. In FRC it would of course be much greater, but "much" is not a number. My best guess is that something like 5' + 3" would be about right. I am thinking about proposing some sort of FRC knight odds with Naka.

You are correct, probably at Rapid time control Naka might be too much for Dragon with Knight Odds, but your suggestion to give Naka a knight Odds at 5' + 3" or even 5' + 4" might become a great offer for Naka, which he will NOT refuse to take, unless he does NOT want to embarrass himself of losing while he is the current Chess960 FIDE World Champion
