I would like to run my engine(s) as a Lichess bot.
Most of the time the server probably wouldn't be doing anything, so I don't want to pay too much for an expensive "always on" hosting. I also don't want to buy my own machine/raspberry pie to plugin somewhere.
Can anyone recommend a good setup?

'Probably' doesn't sound like a sound estimate to base such a decision on. Perhaps you should start running the bot from your own PC for a week or so, to measure what the average load of the server would be.

I've been running it on a server for the last 2 years on and off. During this time it's played 1600 games.
2 blitz games per day is not what I would call "a large load".

Just search for "OpenStack Provider Germany" for example. I like Artfiles from Hamburg:
https://www.artfiles.de/cloud/af.stack- ... ipv4=false
with OpenStack you get a VM in a Cloud, full root access, can choose your preselected OS image, and you can usually change your booked hardware on the fly.
