Retro Chess - updates

Post by Wilhelm »

Database cleanup, Crafties cleanup, name corrections, more engines and more 16bit games. Now 585 engines and 503.000 games.
I reduced the Crafties to not more than one engine per serie and controlled the configs. There are a lot of downloads with wrong config files inside and also many different compiles. Many JA x64 compiles won't work on my Ryzen 5900 so I searched for the fastest working versions.
Sofar not working also SOS 1, 2 and 3, Betsy 5.26.
Can't find Cerebro 1.30 anywhere.

William

PS: if you miss an old beloved engine in my list than reply here.
Ryzen 5900x, 64GB Ram, RTX3080, 2x 2TB SSD, 1x 1TB SSD, 1x 2TB HDD, all custom watercooled, Win10 and Win7 Multiboot, Win98/Windows Millennium/WinXP virtual machines for 16bit

It is evident that you really love ChessMaster. I once knew a professor who looked a lot like the wizard-archetype old man with the white beard and long grey hair they they used on their box covers. I always thought the wizard character was an odd choice as actual chess masters are usually clean shaven. But hey, I guess the branding marketed well.

This note from your web page is interesting.
Update 21.March.2023: imported a big part of the Comp2005 database. It includes only high quality games (minimun 30min. games) and fit perfect to my list. Speedfactor from old HW to newest is ~7. Included a bunch of real Hydra games! All Credits to the contributers and collectors of this database! At least a bunch of new games from my side.
Do you have any information on the Hydra games? Are they from competitions, and/or matches privately run by the Hydra team? After the Michael Adams match it seemed that funding for the project dried up prematurely, which I felt was a shame.

Yo can find some games in the comp2005 database but they are from severel years (2002-2005). Hydra was updated very often and at the end it reaches ~3050 elo. The project was comercially a fail because it never could be selled to customers.
