talkchess UI

Post by jshriver »

I dont visit often as I use too but still here. Bt honestly the last several months th website is almost unusable. Here is what I see 80-90$ of the time.
Miss talk and discord, especially since that fire is back in my belly,

Never had an with cloudfare in the past. On/off vpn, multiple browser, can only write this on Firefox (windows 10) Sorry if disguessed previously but I can read it.

Any help or browser setting changes, whatever to remedy I'm open.

P.S. Thank you to our wonderful host all these years. Know you chose it for a reason and sad. But if the goal is for hackers to DDoS us, well they kinda won even with cloudfare if people still can't access the site in a usable way. :(

Mine was like that on my phone (Android using Chrome) but not my PC (Win10 with Firefox). The phone also took ages to verify the connection, sometimes going around in circles (verifying - tick box - connection secure - verifying...). But I use my phone just for browsing without logging in and the PC for browsing and posting and it turned out the phone problem was fixed once I logged in there too.

My guess is that for some reason if Cloudflare isn't sure about the connection it isn't downloading the CSS file (which formats the web page). Logging in might be making it recognise my IP address as OK because now it connects without me needing to tick the "I'm human" box and shows the pages properly. Maybe something on your connection (VPN, ad blocker or something) is stopping Cloudflare from recognising your IP address?

Same for me on my PC and on my tablet, using Chrome. This forum is quite unusable at the moment.

Agreed, my success rate being something like 1 in 3. Browser doesn't seem to matter, the erratic behavior being seemingly random.

I had problems until I changed the link I was using to access the forum. Here's what I use:

https://talkchess.com/forum3/index.php

This doesn't give me any problems using Chrome on Windows.

I have zero problems with talkchess since I changed to https for talkchess
(https://talkchess.com/forum3/index.php)
_and_ deleted all cached stuff/cookies for it and this was may be already last year,
but I don't remember exactly anymore. WIN7 ;) + latest FF used here.
(also checked 'remember me' once I logged in after this)

Thanks everyone. Noticed when I type just talkchess it goes to http by default and the backend server doesn't autodirect to https. Manually using https works fine.

Whoever the admin is, they can add one line in apache or nginx config to redirect all http traffic to https. Pretty common and recommended for security reasons. Added benefit it would fix this issue too.
