This 130-move problem was first published in 1955 according to PDB (YACPDB link) and is cataloged as an extension of a problem by Bláthy published in 1930 (link). The notes on this Halumbirek's problem say that it holds the record of maximum number of moves for orthodox pieces without promotion pieces featuring a 'seeschlange' theme ('sea snake' theme) and all subsequent record attempts have been proven wrong.

This problem has been reprinted many times according to PDB, for example the Problem C at the page 65 of issue 248 (April 2011) of Die Schwalbe magazine, along with a bio from the composer:

Indeed Jesus, I know of at least 5 or 6 mate in x problems that use the same theme. Thank you for the links to more of the problems exploiting this theme than I knew of.
