Mephisto Phoenix update is disappointing

Post by JohnW »

So I got all excited when I got the email saying the latest firmware update was available to download. What I really wanted was to be able to add ANY additional ROMS to the retro section. But disappointingly, you can only add 8 specific these roms:

Novag Super Expert B & C
Novag Diablo 68000
Fidelity Elite v2/4
CXG Sphinx 40
Saitek Corona C/D

No, Mephisto Genius, No Mephisto Berlin, No Fidelity Elite V10/11 even though the roms are readily available in the CB-EMU-Pro. Seems like they would have gone through each one of those to make sure the device could work with them. I am very disappointed.

the v2 if it is speeded to max is so unbelievable fast that you do not need v11.

the vancouver comes close to the berlin .

Which emulations are included, it doesn't clearly say? For example, is the Atlanta included? What about the Kasparov SPARC?

I own a Revelation II and was pretty disappointed when I found the default speed for emulations isn't very accurate. I tested the

London 68030 (33 MHz) actual machine
Vancouver 68000 actual machine
Mephisto II 1MB actual machine

with the speeds on the Rev II. They don't match I'm afraid. I know you can adjust the speed bar but it's annoying to have to self-calibrate.

Page 23 of the english manual and page 26 of the english manual explains exactly which emulation is supported.

Manuals in english and german can be found here:
https://computerchess.com/Downloads/

The H8 cpus are not supported. This means none of the h8 morsch engines.

This gives:
(RS) - Saitek Risc 2500
(MN) - Mephisto Montreux
(K2) - Tasc R30 V2.2
(K3) - Tasc R30 V2.23
(K5) - Tasc R30 V2.5
(RB) - Mephisto Rebell 5.0
(M4) - Mephisto MM IV
(M5) - Mephisto MM V Version 5.0
(M5) - Mephisto MM V Version 5.1
(PL) - Mephisto Polgar V1.50
(NS) - Mephisto Nigel Short
(NS) - Mephisto Milano 1.01 / 1.02
(G2) - Tasc R30 Gideon
(AM) - Mephisto Amsterdam
(DA) - Mephisto Dallas
(RO) - Mephisto Roma
(AL) - Mephisto Almeria
(PO) - Mephisto Portorose
(LY) - Mephisto Lyon
(VA) - Mephisto Vancouver
(LO) - Mephisto London
(GL) - Mephisto III-S Glasgow
(SB) - Novag Super Expert B
(SC) - Novag Super Expert C
(DI) - Novag Diablo 68000
(F2) - Fidelity Elite Avant Garde Version 2
(CO) - Saitek Corona C und D+ Versione
(SP) - CXG Sphinx 40

IMO this is an amazing amount of emulated dedicated chess computers so far.
