Can Stockfish draw Vs DeeP Blue a Knight Odds ?
If whoever purchased Deeper Blue pit it against Stockfish 16 with KNight Odds, can Stockfish Draw ? https://aibusiness.com/ml/25-years-ago- ... ai-forever

If you want to give a link to "How Deep Blue vs. Kasparov changed AI forever", it's ok, although how Deep Blue is related to AI is questionable, to say the least.Chessqueen wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 5:08 am If whoever purchased Deeper Blue pit it against Stockfish 16 with KNight Odds, can Stockfish Draw ? https://aibusiness.com/ml/25-years-ago- ... ai-forever
But your question about Knight odds is incredibly sick, Chessquack!

It's not an unreasonable question, except for the fact that Deep Blue isn't actually around to test. Stockfish can give knight odds and at least get a lot of draws against engines with CCRL ratings close to the 2900 or so performance level of Deep Blue vs. Kasparov. If we could bring back Deep Blue, I'd say the fair odds vs. Stockfish would be about knight for pawn or perhaps the traditional "pawn and two moves" (f7 off, 1e4 on the board with WTM), assuming let's say some standard Rapid time control. Those would also be reasonable odds for a similar match between Stockfish and Magnus Carlsen, I think, based on the many handicap matches played by Komodo.ernest wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 5:24 pmIf you want to give a link to "How Deep Blue vs. Kasparov changed AI forever", it's ok, although how Deep Blue is related to AI is questionable, to say the least.Chessqueen wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 5:08 am If whoever purchased Deeper Blue pit it against Stockfish 16 with KNight Odds, can Stockfish Draw ? https://aibusiness.com/ml/25-years-ago- ... ai-forever

If I were Chessquack, I would also ask about Carlsen vs. Steinitz, with Knight odds...
(one "not unreasonable question" or post, at least, per day !)
Come on, Larry !

Carlsen vs. Steinitz, there also I would say that knight odds would be a bit much, but knight for pawn or f7 pawn and two moves would be about fair, I think. This is just another way of saying that chess has advanced by nearly 400 elo points in the past century and a half. With engines, it took less than a quarter of a century to advance more than that. In theory, the Carlsen vs. Steinitz question could be answered by picking a current human opponent for Carlsen with the same "Accuracy" or error rates against somewhat weaker opposition as Steinitz had, since opening theory is irrelevant for odds games! We would just need a sponsor!

I'm working on a new video project that looks at the accuracy of the players by analysing their games at peak. The results are very surprising with ancient players weaker than I imagined and uplifts in places (1910s) I didn't expect.lkaufman wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 6:05 pmCarlsen vs. Steinitz, there also I would say that knight odds would be a bit much, but knight for pawn or f7 pawn and two moves would be about fair, I think. Beyond any (reasonable) doubt Steinitz was the weakest world champion.

I doubt if the accuracy is a good predictor.Werewolf wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 10:55 amI'm working on a new video project that looks at the accuracy of the players by analysing their games at peak. Accuracy is not only function of playing strength but also function of the type of the positions that you play.
There are players who go to positions when it is harder for both sides to be accurate.

Yes the bit about position type is true. Nevertheless, at the time of the Hans affair a clear correlation between elo and centipawn accuracy has been shown, and with enough data the correlation is undeniable. The more my project grows the clearer the pattern is.Uri Blass wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 6:37 pmI doubt if the accuracy is a good predictor.Werewolf wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 10:55 amI'm working on a new video project that looks at the accuracy of the players by analysing their games at peak. I agree with you Mr. Larry, Deep Blue could not have played better than Rybka 2.3.2alkaufman wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 7:29 amIt's not an unreasonable question, except for the fact that Deep Blue isn't actually around to test.
