Chess324 Tournament (Completed)

Post by Modern Times »

Back in January I ran a chess324 tournament, here:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=81318

That was incredibly laborious - individual engine-engine matches one by one with all 324 positions reversed sides per pairing. Necessary because CuteChess won't run a gauntlet or round-robin in that way.

This time I took a different, less manual approach. I stumbled across Stefan Pohl's 3-move Chess324 books here. Another great initiative from Stefan:
https://www.sp-cc.de/anti-draw-openings.htm

I chose the Chess324_xxl_big_+090_+119 book which has 70355 lines. That meant that I could run gauntlets in the normal way. And being slightly unbalanced (evals per KomodoDragon 2.6), it made things more interesting.

The tournament is below:

I don't think there are any great surprises. Black wins at 4.6% and white score 68% reflect the advantage-for-white slightly unbalanced book.

Caissa 1.12 has replaced Caissa 1.11.

The result is a jump of 2 places in the tournament ranking - from 8th equal previously to 6th now - due to the approx +31 Elo improvement in performance.

I should change the title, it is "Chess324 xxl" as created by Stefan Pohl. Not pure Chess324.

Chess324 xxl means: All Chess324 positions combined with 6 single-step pawn-plies
Example: 1. h3 h6 2. g3 d6 3. d3 b6
So more than 600000 different Chess324 openings were possible and evaluated!!!
The Chess324 xxl sets are around 30x bigger than the Chess324 64x sets...
https://www.sp-cc.de//anti-draw-openings.htm

I use this book
Chess324_xxl_big_+090_+119 = 70355 lines
