It seems that the main problem of it is the fact that Nh5 is also winning.

You found the answer yourself. Well, there was no question...

Show us a serious game where a promoted queen and a promoted rook manage to find the way back to safe squares through 12-14(!) opponents pieces.
And guess how many of these positions SF is trained on. I have no answer but I would guess it is zero.

The original position when stockfish was relatively slow was WAC01 from a practical game(later I changed it in order to make it slower)

2rr3k/pp3pp1/1nnqbN1p/3pN3/2pP4/2P3Q1/PPB4P/R4RK1 w - - 0 1

I tested it originally with 7 cores and was surprised to find that it does not see it immediately but needs 1 second and found that it needed more than 1M nodes.
I tested it now with 1 core and it needs 105k nodes that is still a lot for mate in 2.

I think that the reason that it is so slow is the fact that there is an alternative move that is winning and not the fact that it is not trained about the position.

Sorry to disagree, but this is not about eval, but only about search.
With 2 very simple additions in the main search function:

Re: Stockfish with 7 cores is very slow in some mates in 2

I would agree that both a "better" eval and a search more focused on finding a mate could help.
Joerg Oster wrote: Fri Aug 25, 2023 3:07 pm Do you think it makes sense to apply the same amount of pruning and reductions
already during the very first iterations? :D
Well, if SF would start agressive pruning in iteration N with N > 2 (and small enough to avoid losing Elo), than someone will complain about a position with mate in N+x not found. Finding mate is the job of huntsman and friends, isn't it?
