You can actually restrict the the same opening to 4 moves depth and obtain the same result, but each engine will be forced to do their own search and get a better feeling of which engine is really stronger. Also the time control could be just 10 to 15 seconds increments without any initial minutes

I'm happy with both the 8 move limit (actually 11 ply with the book being used), plus the time control being used.

I just played 2 games using the same ChessGUI using identical 2 engines with the same opening that you are using, but the 2nd game I decided to duplicate the same opening as the previous game and only used 15 seconds increments without any initial minutes and restricted the same opening to only 4 moves depth and got an identical game move by move

The time control I'm using was recommended by Larry, as being close to the 40 moves in 11 minutes repeating that I was previously using.

It is great recommendation by Mr. Larry, but I just played 2 games using the same ChessGUI using identical 2 engines with the same opening that you are using, but the 2nd game I decided to duplicate the same opening as the previous game and only used 15 seconds increments without any initial minutes and restricted the same opening to only 4 moves depth and got an identical game move by move

I realized that I made the mistake of duplicating the first 8 moves which were played in the previous game instead of the 1st 4 moves, but with the different time control it made all the rest of the moves identical.
