At the moment I try to understand the logic from the games ...
Yes, it make sense to stopped all games with more as 200 moves!
I remember I am working with Martin Blume on Arena GUI.
We created such a feature for the emergency!
Maybe in the database is a treasure.
I am searching ...

Re: Fighting for Nothing ... the database of the year 2023!
Yesterday I saw a game an engine need 1:48 minutes for mate in 1.
My PC is slow... 4Ghz only, I need a 20Ghz processor.
At the moment I am waiting for the last game of round 12 (still running tournament).
Booot 7.2 NN vs. Alexandria 5.1.0 NN ... two times a pawn move before 50 moves rule in clear draw position for more than 130 moves (Booot like that, I think there are over 40 such games in the database, Booot games over 180 moves.
Now no pawn on the board ... game runs now 312 moves ... and will be over in about 1 hour.
I am watching, very interesting KR-KR endgame ...
The white king is interesting ... never has the king visited 12 of the 64 fields, but the game is not over!
Can be interesting!!

Re: Fighting for Nothing ... the database of the year 2023!
I know ... for 20 years the programmers are stupid (no, no).
If in engine databases only about 0.3% of games are over 200 moves, or not?
What should a club player with around 1300 Elo think when he finds the database?
First moment: Typical computer chess
Second moment: And the average of the TOP-41 is really 3353 Elo today?
Third moment: I think I will buy an old chess computer in eBay!
The database is full of mistakes:
Today I saw this live ...
I think the game is a draw and before I switched to another game ...
Obsidian won?
I should never switch to another game ... not before mate and not before draw!

Re: Fighting for Nothing ... the database of the year 2023!
Hi there,
I remember the year 2001.
Victor (Chess-Assistant programmer) wrote me an e-mail.
Victor asked for time for him.
A fight against Winboard errors in engines for the important CA GUI.
So I gave him the error list (at this time I am working on a Winboard site ... chess site number 1 in FIDE ...). OK, only for two months, but over the years in TOP-01-10). About 4.000 page views daily, weekly from about 170 countries in the world. I have provided over 40 programmes. Often in cooperation with Prof. Djordje Vidanovic.
Two long nights in December, I think in 2000 or 2001.
Victor tries to understand the bugs and tries a GUI programming against the bugs.
After each hour ... Frank, the next one.
And all information with modem ... every months 700 DM money for the internet connection in Winboard times ... over years!
Two long nights, but after ... the 60 or 70 Winboard engines run with ChessAssistant and produced no bugs. End of the day with the comment ... this was a hard programming but all is OK Frank.
We helped DGT, we are the first where supported FRC / Chess960 with a lot of connections to people where like to see that. The list is very long what I do ... DeepShredder vs. The World (the first online match, I organized a lot of prices in selfwork ... DGT boards and so one). Send for free Millennium 2000 package to programmers with the wish to support UCI ... from my money. Give over 2.000 money for send an ArenaDVD to all 400 beta testers around the World ... the list is very long.
Later I start the Arena project with Martin. In the last year before I needed the break (I worked six hours a day on this project for years, I had written over 200,000 support mails) we had 3.5 million downloads. Martin also tries a lot to do the best for a perfect combination of the first UCIs and the WB engines. We are working togther perfectly with a very nice final result. Many important engine ideas came from me. Step by step the list of ideas goes in Arena. Thinking about the time we are in a normal daily newspaper in Argentina on page 1. On this day 30.000 page views from Argentina!
So, more than 30 years I try to make a support with over 15 million page views on older sites. I think I do enough over the years.
But I cannot do anything about the high average of moves and that is what annoys me a bit. I think all goes a bit in to a wrong direction.
So I think all these years...
When you are older you can reap the harvest.
Best regards
Frank
I hope I can produce more fun with my next tournament and wish me that different programmers do a bit againt the "horror move-average" of there engines. Again, that is not very nice!
